School districts are one component of the home search process. As with any other aspect of your home search, it is a good idea to research the elementary, middle schools, high schools and senior high schools that your desired home is zoned to. Greatschools.org is a great tool that will provide input from parents of students, as well as metrics for several different parameters. Keep in mind that zoning can change, but doing as much due diligence as possible before your purchase makes you an educated buyer.
